In Loving Memory of Tongva Elder Julia Bogany.

Julia Bogany worked for over thirty years for the American Indian community for her Tongva tribe. She provided cultural, FASD, ICWA training and workshops in the Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside areas. She also provided workshops in Sacramento for the California Rural Indian Health Board Woman's conferences.

The usage of acorn:
The oak trees, indigenous to California, bear acorns are sacred to the Tongva community and a staple in traditional meals. Acorns were often gathered in the fall before the rain came. To harvest the acorns, Californian Native Americans would crack open the shell and pull out the inner part of the acorn. The goal is to teach the history of acorns, their importance to the area’s indigenous people such as the Tongva tribes, and how they were turned from uneatable to a food-source staple.
